Mrs Arkley said, "I'm pleased that so many residents have already given their views. But I think it's vital that as
many people as possible have the chance to be heard, which is why I've asked for the consultation period to be extended."
(see NTC 19/8/2010 press release)
Addressing some residents' concerns that recent political flyers gave the impression the CSPO
was a done deal, Mrs Arkley said "The Core Strategy Preferred Options document only sets out options for the borough - no
decisions have been made. I want to reassure residents that their views will be listened to very carefully."
The Core Strategy Preferred Options (CSPO) sets out North Tyneside's preferences for it Core Strategy, which when the
full council decides to adopt it, will form the backbone for all future development decisions. The
council has been working on the Core Strategy since 2006, the present public consultation concerns the
"preferred options", which details what the council has decided it prefers and what it does not prefer for the core strategy.
This is the last real opportunity for your views to be taken on board before the council planners start work on the draft
of the Core Strategy. The Draft Core Strategy will contain the "options" for adoption as core strategy policies.
Absent any significant course changes, the "preferred options" will likely be carried over as core strategy policy.
Holystone Action Group would like to express its thanks to the Mayor and the Council for not only listening to residents'
concerns about the consultation period but also for responding to them and then extending the consultation.
